My "go-to", no equipment needed, quick workout
Considering our "situation" seems to keep being extended it's even more important for us to get into daily healthy habits. Getting movement in EVERY DAY is very important.
Benefits of daily exercise:
* improves your mood - you feel like you accomplished something, you have taken care of yourself, it gives you more energy, you feel better about yourself, the exercise itself stimulates "feel good" brain reactions to allow an immediate mood boost as well.
* improves your sleep - exercise each day & sleep better each night. I also know that if I am not getting enough sleep I am NOT in the best mood the next day.
* disease prevention - exercise has been proven to have positive impacts on bone density, blood pressure, body composition, cholesterol, depression, and more. Exercise regularly and reduce your medical risk stratification.
Three major benefits that will positively affect you RIGHT NOW!
I have been doing the following program every day for the past 9 days in addition to 3+ miles of running or walking with my dogs. Today I even added a 3+ mile bike ride! There are lots of progressions and modifications that can be made for each exercise as well.
Progressions / Modifications
* mix up all those crunches with some options;
- full sit ups
- reverse crunches
- double crunches
- russian twists
- oblique curls
* if lunges aren't your thing try some of these options;
- brazil lunges
- back lunges (easier on the knees)
- single leg stands
- single leg dead lifts
- single leg back bridges
* push ups can always be done from the knees if needed or use an elevation like your kitchen counter if you prefer.
So who will be trying this out with me? Maybe we can make it a shelter-in-place challenge... Around here we are at home for the next month at least. Can you do this along with a walk or bike ride each day for 30 days? I bet you can!
If you have any questions just let me know!
