Have you heard about the benefits of Probiotics?

Have YOU heard?

I get plenty of questions about probiotics. Clients who have asked about them AND clients who I can tell are having some issues that Probiotics could help with. Often, when I ask if they are taking a probiotic, they are not. Here’s the deal, there is plenty of research out there that probiotics are beneficial. Don’t wait until you’re “gut-shot” to start consuming some, start now, help prevent issues in the future.

What is a Probiotic?

Probiotics are live microorganisms (beneficial bacteria, yeast, etc.) that live mainly in the digestive tract where they can assist your gut microbiome. These are the “good” bacteria that can fight off the “bad” bacteria that often cause illness & inflammation.

Benefits of consuming probiotics

  • Improved digestion & gut function: seems pretty straight forward. Healthy gut = better digestion & function.

  • Boost immunity: Did you know that up to 80% of your immune cells are found in your gut?

  • Improve skin health: There is also a connection between gut & skin. When your gut microbiome is off, inflammation can show up in your skin or even your body odor.

  • May support Mental Health: The gut & brain are connected, ever notice how stress can cause an upset stomach? If your gut microbiome is off the production of hormones that affect mood can also be off. Besides, if you don't feel well physically it will affect how you feel mentally.

  • Weight Management: When your gut is healthier your digestive system works better. This can result in fewer cravings and thus weight management.

Sources of probiotics

  • Yogurt, Kefir, Kombucha, Kimchi, Miso, Tempeh and Sauerkraut. Do you enjoy or regularly eat any of these foods? If so, great! You're getting probiotics into your diet.

  • Supplements: Don’t like any of these sources of probiotics? You're not alone. There are pills and powders that can be taken as a supplement if you do not like sources that can be found in your daily diet.

  • What is the “best source”? That is a question many ask about most things to help them be better. The "best source" of probiotics is the one you will use.

No need to go too far overboard with your probiotics, you just need to get enough to keep your microbiome happy. Take care of your health & it will take care of you!
