Are you "Just not feeling it" today?

"I'm just not feeling it today."

"I'll workout tomorrow."

We've all heard/said these things before, right? Some days (or weeks, or months) we just don't feel like working out. Our motivation is low, our energy is low, our spare time is low. There are so many reasons why this could happen to any of us, and so many reasons why we need to work through this and keep working out.

First of all, let me say this ~ if you are truly sick or injured you need to take the time you need to recover. Come back to your workouts/training when you are healthy.

Workout ~ WORKout

If it wasn't going to be "work" it would be called something different. Relaxout, Easeout, Restout... Working out is going to be challenging. The workout itself should be challenging enough to evoke improvement. The saying "no pain, no gain" is true - within reason. Pushing yourself to lift heavier, walk faster, run farther; all of these things will make you a better athlete, and the goal of working out is to get better. Right?

Working out can also be hard because it seems like a chore to get it done. Everyone deserves to find the exercise or activity that will keep them coming back for more ~ and not everyone is going to enjoy the same activities. This is OK. Not everyone is going to love Zumba, but it's great if you do! Not everyone is going to love CrossFit, but it's great if your friend does! Not everyone is going to love running, but its great if your daughter does! Find what motivates you to keep going and DO IT!

Working out is going to be "work" in the sense that you need to put it on your calendar. Don't expect the time, place or plan for your workout to just present itself easily each day. Life will happen. Most of us have a job, a family, friends, obligations and interests that are scheduled into our calendars. Your health needs to be in there too. Set aside that time EACH DAY to get your workout in! You cannot expect your workouts to get easier ever if you never make time for them. When you fall into one of these "lulls" in your workouts remind yourself that it's only going to get harder the longer you take to get back at it!
